Chicago and Fish

July 9th, 2007 by admin

So, we spent the weekend in Chicago with our friend Eric Martin. I’ve never been, and we didn’t get to spend a ton of time there, but I thought our time was well spent. I was sorry Kory couldn’t join us, but he was busy playing Laser Tag in Louisville, so who could blame him?

We spent our first evening at Uno’s (while Eric enjoyed the Police concert), a Chicago staple, where a very nice waiter (maitre ‘d?) STRONGLY advised me that I should not leave my purse hanging on the back of my chair. Point taken, although any thief would have been disappointed with the contents of my bag. At least he was nice, and the pizza was good, if INSANELY cheesy. And I really like cheese.

Across from the Mariott where we stayed, there was a Joe’s. So, naturally, we had to photograph it for Chip’s L’il bro Joe. We wanted to eat there, but reservations weren’t easy to come by and when they were, they were late. Sorry, Joe, we had to eat.

Friday we got up and walked down to Navy Pier, where we took a cruise on a 10-sail vessel called the Tall Windy. I got lots of great photos, particularly a lighhouse shot for my mom. Being on the water was generally good for all, even if we left with a little sunburn. Oh, and we almost ran over some moron in a little sailboat who thought he could cut us off — that was fun.

Friday night we ate a FABULOUS dinner at Phil Stefani’s 437 Rush, located at … you guessed it, 437 Rush Street. It really was wonderful.

Saturday we spent time at the Shedd Acquarium and Taste of Chicago, although the latter was insanely cost prophibitive. We had dinner at Heaven on Seven … a nice Cajun place, though not the best.

Oh! And we saw Sponge Bob in 4 D. It rocked.

That pretty much sums it up … I will spend the next two days collecting our pets from their various sitters, and the house will be full again. Hope you’re all doing well out there.

Didn’t you just LOVE Chicago?? I’ve only been twice but I would love to go back! I am insanely jealous, particularly because I feel very certain that it wasn’t nearly as hot there this weekend as it was here…

I would not have felt right eating seafood so close to … seafood. I finally ate at Bubba Gump’s, tho!

Friday’s weather was gorgeous, although Saturday was pretty toasty. That’s the day we hit the aquarium, tho, so it worked out.

[...] So we were in Chicago last weekend… Angela has more (and better) coverage of the blessed event. Note that while we WERE at the Taste of Chicago, we did NOT, apparently, eat here.   [...]

I finally got by to take a look at the blog. I’m not ready to start rooting for the Cubs to win a world series, but I loved Chicago. (Actually, I kind of like that the Cubs never seem to win the world series. It kind of reminds me of Charlie Brown.)

[...] We went to the Field Museum to see the Mythic Creatures Exhibit, we went to Wrigley Field, we went to the Alder Planetarium, we went sailing on a tiny little sailboat, we went to Second City, and we ate at some really terrific restaurants.  I will post pictures soon, although honestly, we didn’t take that many photos.  The camera was heavy and it was hot.  Plus, we photographed all the good stuff last time we were there.
